Thomson, Thomas Cook and Co-op Travel Drop Jet2holidays!

Did you know that Independent Travel Agents such as Conexo Travel are now the only place you can book Jet2Holidays award-winning package holidays?

Thomas Cook has this week confirmed that it has announced it is to cease selling Jet2holidays in it’s shops, which means that Co-Operative Travel at Clifton Moor will also be unable to sell Jet2Holidays. The decision to stop selling Jet2Holidays by Thomas Cook and Co-op Travel comes soon after TUI (Thomson) announced they would no longer sell Jet2holidays in their shops. This means that Thomson and Thomas Cook’s Monks Cross shops and Co-operative Travel at Clifton Moor are no longer able to sell Jet2Holidays, leaving Conexo Travel in Haxby as the only high street travel agency in the area selling Jet2Holidays.

Thomas Cook have claimed the move was about increasing its focus on its own holiday offering, which is a similar message given by Thomson. In reality, Jet2Holidays have grown massively over the last few years and after Thomson and Thomas Cook they are the third largest package holiday company in the UK. When you consider that they have only just recently begun to sell their holidays in the South of England this is a fantastic achievement – no wonder Thomson and Thomas Cook are looking over their shoulders with concern that their market share is being picked off by Jet2Holidays.

What does this mean to holidaymakers? Well less choice if you visit one of their shops. Remember, you had less choice to begin with as Thomas Cook, Thomson and the Co-Operative Travel (who are part of Thomas Cook) always prefer to push their own brands.

As a result, Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy said the operator would increase support for independent agents. “It’s not unexpected that Thomas Cook has ceased to sell Jet2holidays as a result of its in house distribution strategy. Our focus has and always will be independent travel agents.” he said.

“At Jet2holidays we are committed to further increasing our support for independents with even more joint marketing activity and expanding our field sales team. There is now a fantastic opportunity for our independent retail partners to grow their business with us. They are now the only place on the high street where people can book our award-winning package holidays.”
